We ask that dancers attend class in appropriate dance attire, which includes leotards, tights, and fitted clothing. Please refrain from sweatpants and loose t-shirts. It is very helpful to teachers and students that each dancer be in the correct clothing. Please ensure your dancer has a hair tie for each class, we recommend leaving extras in their dance bag for days a dancer forgets one. It is dangerous to dance or tumble with hair in your face so these are very important for each class!! For hip-hop, the clothing rules vary from the other classes but all dancers must wear tennis shoes to class weekly. It is important that dancers bring the appropriate shoes to class. For example, it is difficult to hear if dancers are doing a tap step correctly if they do not have shoes, and pointe class is not beneficial to the dancer if they are not in pointe shoes!
We like to acknowledge that our dancers may participate in other activities. This means that we do not have an attendance policy in the fall semester, but once we return from Winter Break, we do enforce an attendance policy. Please contact Erin Whaley if a dancer is sick, because that is an excused absence and will not count against a dancer! Please note that although there is no policy in the first semester, it is crucial that dancers attend as much as possible so they do not fall behind in technique and choreography. NO award is given for perfect attendance, so please do not send a dancer if they are sick or contagious. If a dancer has an inury that will span weeks, we ask that the dancer sits and observes classes so they do not fall behind.
Erin Whaley has built a competition team of dancers with the help of Lindsay Utley. This opportunity is only presented to a dancer and parent when Erin sees that the dancer is ready to perform a solo. Taking the stage alone is a huge step for dancers and pushing a dancer to take this step too early would not be appropriate. Once dancers have experience doing competition, Erin and Lindsay may invite them to participate in our annual production. As many have seen, our productions are around ten minutes long each year and this is learned over the summer and rehearsed weekly. This is a major time commitment. Our 2024 production was The Little Mermaid, which won many overall awards at competition, and landed Studio 86 an invite to perform at Broadway Unleashed at LCC!
